NS empty hoppers |
Description: |
Just 13 minutes after the loaded coal train passed, we were rewarded with an empty hopper train with the competition of low-emission locomotives: a GEVO and an SD70M-2. When I saw the GEVO coming, I had my hopes up that it would be one of the new ES44ACs that NS ordered, but was disappointed to find out that it was just a 7600-series ES40DC. |

Weird S-curve |
Description: |
This is unusual...notice the tracks here are further apart than at other places on this line. They come back together apparently, just look at the cars taking the S-bend at 50 miles per hour! |

NS 387 |
Description: |
Another NS catfish (are we tired of those yet???) leads 387, the only westbound manifest on the Norfolk District and one of only two manifests on the entire line. Notice the other two units, an ex-Conrail repainted SD60I and an ex-Southern C39-8E! You can't see it from here, but the SD60I had a Nathan P3 horn! YUCK!!! |

NS 387 |
Description: |
NS 387 passing by a side road that goes to a small neighborhood right by the tracks. I would love to live in one of those houses, even though I'm not a small town person. Notice the pattern on the first few cars of the train, scrap gondola, Top Gon, scrap gondola, Top Gon, gondola. HA! |

NS 387 |
Description: |
NS 387 heads off westbound into the distance. Just barely visible is an eastbound headlight just over the hill. Note the MP 45 marker just ahead. Best guess is that the two trains met somewhere around the 47 Crossovers. |

NS 234 |

The automobile traffic in the small town of Ivor, Virginia will soon be interrupted once again by a fast-moving intermodal stack train, as this shot shows of 234 quickly approaching at almost 60 miles per hour. |

NS 912 |
Description: |
We had been hearing something about "NS 912" on my RadioShack PRO-89 scanner, when something's coming, I usually hear a 200 or 300-series symbol, and occasionally an 800-series symbol, depending on whether or not the engineer calls the signals. But 900-series? This has just got to be something different... |
